Fernando Bordoni

Museo Civico Villa dei Cedri
22 settembre 2018 – 3 febbraio 2019

In 2015, Fernando Bordoni (Mendrisio, *1937) made a gift to the Museum of a major collection of more than 100 works on paper, thereby allowing us to reconstruct his artistic career, from its beginnings, after he had graduated from the Accademia di Brera, to the development of a personal and original geometric language.

Bordoni's work takes us on a journey through the history of art in the second half of the 20th Century, from the 1960s to the 2000s: after early beginnings marked by Informalism, travels in Europe led the artist onto the path of pop art; works made with traces of inked tires on paper in the 1970s would give birth to a geometric abstraction suffused with poetry. The exhibition is an opportunity to discover not only the sum of the artist's output on paper and canvas, from the Museum's collection and private lenders, but also reveals his creative processes via a series of studies and sketches. This exhibition dedicated to Fernando Bordoni also presents an aspect of Ticino's artistic heritage which has been little studied hitherto.
